Tips
Carpet
It's important to remember that while some carpets have stain- and soil-resistant surfaces, there's no such thing as a stain- or soil-proof carpet. Nevertheless, carpet is one of the easiest types of flooring to care for, provided you follow a few simple guidelines.
Hardwood
All the hardwood flooring we install here at Ultimate comes with a stain- and wear-resistant finish, but accidents do happen. With a little foresight, however, you can help keep your floor looking as spectacular as the day it was installed.
Laminate
Laminate floors are amazingly easy to maintain. In most cases, if you simply use a damp cloth to mop up spills as soon as they happen, you can keep your floor looking like new. For tougher spills, such as ink, oil, paint, lipstick or markers, remove the spill using acetone-based nail polish remover on a clean white cloth, then go over the spill area again with a damp cloth to remove residue.
Tile
A tile floor should be damp-mopped once a week with a neutral pH cleaner. The primary concern in cleaning tile is that the cleaning product and tool not damage or discolor the grout. The cleaner must be free of acids, vinegar, chlorines, and ammonia. Detergent and soap can dull the finish of your tile, and promote mildew, so they should be avoided as well. The best tile cleaners are those made especially for the purpose, such as Shaw's R2X Hard Surfaces Cleaner. A good cleaner will keep your floor looking its best, while preventing wear and discoloration.
